If you're here for some reason...
I've moved on. After only a few days, this site annoys me too much. Tumblr is nicer in that it allows html and customization, and doesn't break thrice a day.August 30 2007
“ Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. ”— Seneca, roman philosopher
Impressions of wood forms, Westview Greenbelt Drain by Michael Cook. Lots of other nice pictures there, and at this flickr photoset, which accompanies this interview by bldgblog.
Orgasm 0.22
Orgasm is a machine code assembler for 6502 and derivative microprocessors. That must be the coolest software name I've seen in a while.“ Soup.io is the sexy one-night stand, it's apparent from the start with no commitment to sign up, a try before you buy. Tumblr on the other hand is the cute long-term partner. I've had my affair and now i'm back. ”— Yum9me's Scrapbook!
“ Shoulder-surfing -- using direct observation techniques, such as looking over someone's shoulder, to get passwords, PINs and other sensitive personal information is a problem that has been difficult to overcome. When a user enters information using a keyboard, mouse, touch screen or any traditional input device, a malicious observer may be able to acquire the user's password credentials. We present EyePassword, a system that mitigates the issues of shoulder surfing via a novel approach to user input. With EyePassword, a user enters sensitive input (password, PIN, etc.) by selecting from an on-screen keyboard using only the orientation of their pupils (i.e. the position of their gaze on screen), making eavesdropping by a malicious observer largely impractical. We present a number of design choices and discuss their effect on usability and security. ”— Reducing Shoulder-surfing by Using Gaze-based Password Entry
Will gmail shed its "beta" from the logo before Gnu HURD or Duke Nukem Forever are released? It's not as if it doesn't work for everyone already, has done so for a long time.
"YES HUMANS WOULD LIKELY REACT THE SAME WAY TO A FOURTH SPATIAL DIMENSION
YOU WOULD SEE THE INSIDES AND OUTSIDES AND ALLSIDES OF YOUR COMRADES SIMULTANEOUSLY
AND THEN THEY WOULD SHRINK AND DISAPPEAR AS THEY SLIDE ALONG THE FOURTH AXIS"
Pixelcomic is a comic about pixels that somehow manages to be deeper than it sounds.

"Like such as" should be the new it phrase. Like all memes, its value lies not so much in the content as in the social phenomenon.6 615 055 161

New Trends in the Tumble-o-sphere
Guess what the trend is: communication! As if we've all been living on seperate planets, skillfully crafting our silent imprints of web consciousness, and now we've suddenly converged and turned into another area for polypersonal communication in several channels, as opposed to silent, one-way propaganda. Perhaps we have. I say we, even if I've only been part of the tumble-o-sphere (didn't even know such a word existed) for a couple of days. Nils Geylen: feel free to consider this communication!Does This Projection Make Me Look Fat?
I would say lol, but I can't think of a way to make it sound sarcastic, and you don't want to be caught speaking 1337 without being sarcastic, do you?Introducing the Hardy Heron
Ubuntu 8.04 will be called Hardy Heron. Now, if I could just get 7.04 or 7.10 beta working on my computer...Here's to hoping that damned "failed to allocate mem resource" bug is gone before Heron is released.“ I am an idiot for not replacing this text. (source). ”— Simen's law of democracy: idiots swarm to democratic processes as insects to light bulbs. Here's an example, from the R6RS ratification process.
Flickr user jack.frink has caught a Scheming Bee on film. But how would it type?
Support
So as to make sure I'm not simply parrotting programming reddit's views on R6RS, here are some comments in favor. Notably, you only have to support your decision if you voted no, so naturally, the NOs are better explained.
Andreas Bernauer: "I think the draft is a good continuation of the current standard. In particular, I like the newly introduced concept of libraries, that the handling of unicode characters is specified and that error conditions can be handled within a Scheme program in a standardized way."
Carl D. Offner: "I started out feeling pretty negative about the report. I really liked the 50-page tight simplicity of R5RS. But I've made my peace with most of R6RS. I do appreciate that there are a number of things that are specified in much greater detail, and/or better explained, and/or made more consistent. And while I'm not sure of the need for *all* the macro facilities, I'm willing to believe that they were felt necessary by people with more expertise in this area than me
Thomas F. Gordon: "The 5.97 draft standard brings Scheme up-to-date, helping to make it a viable alternative to more popular languages such as Java and Python."
Pinku Surana: "This time Scheme needs a splash of "worse is better" to move the language standard forward."
Kent Dybvig: "It's not perfect, but it's good enough, and I'm happy to leave pursuit of perfection to the r7rs editors."
It's all there.

Gambit
Gambit-C 4.0 was released some days ago, and the website now runs Mediawiki. Marc Feeley voted no to R6RS.“ Programming languages should be designed not by piling feature on top of feature, but by removing the weaknesses and restrictions that make additional features appear necessary. ”— The scheme philosophy to language design
